Amateur Sports, Professional Therapy

Now is a fantastic time of year to take up the sporting activities you've always been meaning to take up. Perhaps there's a local running club taking place in your neighbourhood? A squash club is going on at your nearest gym or it's so warm you're literally sprinting towards your nearest swimming pool!

The summer has provided brilliant weather to take part in many of these outdoor activities. Not only is it great fun, but it's a good form of exercise to burn fat, improve your heart and strengthen your muscles.

Take heed as there are some risks from suddenly becoming much more active - properly warm up and warm down, stretch and drink plenty of water. Push yourself as comfortable as you're happy to and remember it's about having fun.

All these activities can take its strain on the body. Bowen Therapy can be a ideal partner to your new-found activities - helping to sooth the aching muscles and sporting injuries you may encounter.

Using light touches at specific points of the body, through light clothing or skin, the Bowen Technique is a particularly unconventional massage – drug free, complementary and gentle in approach. Rather than ‘making’ the body change, Bowen ‘asks’ the body to recognise the ailment and make the changes it requires.

During the 30-60 minute treatment, the Bowen practitioner makes small, rolling movements over muscles, tendons, ligaments and soft tissue at precise points on the body, using only the amount of pressure appropriate for that individual.

Between each set of moves, the body is allowed to rest for a few minutes, to allow it to absorb the information it has received and initiate the healing process.

If you would like to try Bowen, find a qualified Bowen practitioner near to you by visiting the Bowen website or calling 0844 561 7173.
