Symptoms usually start at
quite a young age, and can include:
- Persistent cough
- Recurring chest and lung infections
- Poor weight gain
There is no known cure for
Cystic Fibrosis, meaning that any and all treatments currently available are to
help ease the symptoms, while making the condition as comfortable to live with
as possible.
Along with bronchodilators
(medication that helps to expand the airways inside the lungs, making it easier
to breathe) – antibiotics are used to treat chest and lung infections, while
physiotherapy is used to aid clear mucus from the lungs.
Bowen Therapy doesn’t
“treat”, but it can help to ease respiratory symptoms.
Using light touches at
specific points of the body, through light clothing or skin, the Bowen
Technique is a particularly unconventional massage – drug free, complementary
and gentle in approach. Rather than ‘making’ the body change, Bowen ‘asks’ the
body to recognise the ailment and make the changes it requires.
During the 30-60 minute treatment, the Bowen practitioner makes small,
rolling movements over muscles, tendons, ligaments and soft tissue at precise
points on the body, using only the amount of pressure appropriate for that
individual.
No hard-tissue manipulation or force is needed or used.
Between each set of moves, the body is allowed to rest for a few minutes,
to allow it to absorb the information it has received and initiate the healing
process.
If you would like to try Bowen, find a qualified Bowen practitioner near to
you by visiting the Bowen website or calling 0844 561 7173.
