In an interview she said that she has recently
finished training races with a lot of pain in her foot, due to a condition
called plantar fasciitis.
This could mean that she is unable to train as much
as she needs to for the selection races that are coming up soon, meaning her
Olympic hopes could be dashed if she does not qualify.
Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammatory process of the plantar fascia,
the connective tissue on the sole of the foot.
It is often caused by
overuse of the plantar fascia or arch tendon of the foot.
It is a very common
condition and can be difficult to treat if not looked after properly.
Another common term for
the affliction is ‘policeman's heel’.
The Bowen Technique has had some
great results with plantar fasciitis and other ankle and foot problems.
Bowen is a natural,
drug-free, non-invasive, complementary therapy that 'asks' the body to
recognise the ailment and make the changes it requires as opposed to ‘forcing’
the body change.
During the 30-60 minute
treatment, the Bowen practitioner makes small, rolling, movements over muscles,
tendons, ligaments and soft tissue at precise points on the body, using only
the amount of pressure appropriate for that individual.
No hard-tissue manipulation
or force is needed or used.
Between each set of moves,
the body is allowed to rest for a few minutes, to allow it to absorb the
information it has received and initiate the healing process.
One Bowen client said: “Having had a problem with plantar
fasciitis for a few months and having seen podiatrists, had
massages etc. I thought I would try Bowen.
“I was amazed after 2 sessions how much better my
heel was.
“I now have hardly any problems with it at all unless
I been wearing heeled shoes for long periods.”
