Take the edge off your frozen shoulder

So the snow is here and everything has frozen over, but one thing that can’t be solved with some de-icer and a kettle are frozen shoulders.

Frozen shoulder, or what’s medically referred to as adhesive capsulitis, drastically reduces movement in the shoulder and, in some cases, can disable movement completely.

Frozen shoulder is caused when the flexible tissue that surrounds the shoulder joint, known as the capsule, becomes inflamed and thickened.

There are a number of things that make developing a frozen shoulder more likely, including a shoulder injury or shoulder surgery, diabetes, Dupuytren's contracture - a condition where small lumps of thickened tissue form in the hands and fingers – and other health conditions, such as heart disease and strokes.

Remedies for frozen shoulders vary from tablets to injections; however Bowen therapy is an complementary therapy that prides itself on being able to trigger the body’s own healing systems, so there would be no nasty side-effects from heavy painkillers.

Rather than 'making' the body change, Bowen 'asks' the body to recognise and make the changes it requires. With primarily fingers and thumbs, the Bowen practitioner makes small, rolling movements over muscles, tendons, ligaments and soft tissue at precise points on the body, using only the amount of pressure appropriate for that individual.

No hard-tissue manipulation or force is needed or used. Between each set of moves, the body is allowed to rest for a few minutes, to allow it to absorb the information it has received and initiate the healing process.

One Bowen client, who suffered from frozen shoulder, said: “The immediate relief from pain was welcome and provided an invaluable platform for steady recovering

“I also found the minimally intrusive style of treatment extremely relaxing – I feel it helped me to slow down and conserve energy which I’m sure facilitated recovery.

“A really good experience which I have recommended to others.”

Another said: “I was recommended Bowen treatment for my second frozen shoulder (my first I had been told would now not recover).

“The results became apparent after my third treatment; I no longer needed pain killers.

“After further treatments I regained use of my shoulder/arm and also regained use of my first frozen shoulder that my consultant & physio said was beyond repair.

“After prolonged pain and suffering of frozen shoulder I declare my Bowen therapy nothing less than a miraculous cure!”
